Entrevista com a Toy Photographer Belle-Chan

Um pouco mais sobre a criadora dessas belíssimas imagens!

Essa carioca de 27 anos, apaixonada por Figure Photography, se chama Isabelle e mora em Curitiba atualmente, onde trabalha como designer gráfica. Além de adorar gatos e comida japonesa (quem não ama? xD), possui uma coleção de figures composta massivamente por personagens de animes e games japoneses. Seu noivo, o HunterX-v2, foi "contaminado" por sua paixão e, hoje em dia, também coleciona figures e tira fotos! Ah, esses casais ;)

No momento, suas fotos de figures estão sendo expostas na República Tcheca, na Galeria Draka!!! Viu que chique é essa moça? :D

Então, vamos conhecer um pouco mais sobre ela.

This 27 years old carioca, that is in-love with figure photography, is called Isabelle and now lives in Curitiba, where she works as a graphical designer. Beside loving cats and japanese food (who doesn't? xD), she has a figure collection that is composed by anime and japanese games' characters. Her fiancé, HunterX-v2, was contamined by her passion and, nowadays, collects figures and takes pictures as well! Ow, those couples... ;)

At this moment, her figure pictures are being exposed on Czech Republic, on Draka Gallery!!! This girls is very fancy!! :D

So, let's know her a little better.

Taís/Tonikaku: Toy photography é um tipo de arte que aqui no Brasil não é tão difundida. Fale um pouco do seu começo e em quem você se inspirou. Antes de fazer toy photography, você já gostava de fotografia?

Bellechan: Sim, infelizmente. Conheço pouquíssimos brasileiros que fazem esse tipo de foto. Eu comecei quando eu comprei um nendoroid do Sebastian Michaelis. Na época eu não conhecia nada sobre os tipos de figuras, marcas, etc. Nem mesmo sobre fotos deles. Eu queria dar um sentido maior para ele ao invés de deixá-lo apenas dentro da caixa. Eu sempre gostei muito de fotografia, então comecei a tirar algumas fotos dele e postar no meu Deviantart. Depois fui procurar saber mais sobre isso e conheci o Kodomut, que foi a minha maior inspiração pra entrar de vez nesse universo.

Taís/Tonikaku: In Brazil, toy photography isn't a very difused art. Tell us about your beginning and about who inspired you. Before doing toy photography, did you like photography?

Bellechan: Yes, unfortunatelly. I know few brazilians that take this kind of pictures. I began when I bought Sebastian Michaelis' nendoroid. At that time, I didn't know anything about figures, brands, etc. Not even about this kind of art. All I wanted to do was to give him a bigger meaning than leave him inside the box. I always enjoyed photography, so I started to take pictures of Sebastian and post on my Deviantart. After, I did a research and I met Kodomut, the person who was the biggest inspiration to enter this universe.

 

 

Taís/Tonikaku: Pessoas que têm interesses mais específicos, geralmente encontram, na internet, outras com gostos similares. Como é o seu contato com outros toy photographers? Essa é uma comunidade unida?

Bellechan: Eu conheci muitas pessoas através do Deviantart e tive a felicidade de fazer amizade com algumas delas.

Acredito que por ser uma comunidade não muito grande as pessoas se conhecem umas às outras então acabam sempre se encontrando. Algumas pessoas se juntam em círculos de parceria como FPS (Figure Photo Studio) ou Figubo (Figure Board).

Taís/Tonikaku: People who has more specific tastes, normally, finds, on internet, others with similar ones. How is your contact with other toy photographers? Is it a united community?

Bellechan: I got to know a lot of peoples thru Deviantart and I am very happy to be friends with some of them.

I believe that, for being a not so big community, people know each other so they happen to meet. Some people get together into partnerships as FPS (Figure Photo Studio) or Figubo (Figure Board).

Taís/Tonikaku: Como é o preparo para fazer o ensaio? Você mesma cuida de todos os detalhes (iluminação, acessórios...)?

Bellechan: Depende muito da foto. Se for algo elaborado e que eu planejo com antecedência, eu faço uma lista das coisas que eu preciso e um esboço no papel de como eu vejo a foto na minha cabeça, rs. As mais espontâneas são bem no improviso, vou testando o que fica melhor e pegando coisas do dia a dia para compor. Eu cuido da iluminação nas minhas fotos, mas sempre que eu preciso de alguma ajuda, o meu noivo Eglemilson (aka HunterX-v2), sempre está comigo para me dar alguma dica. Sempre tem um detalhe que uma pessoa percebe melhor que a outra. Nos ajudamos mutuamente em relação a isso.

Taís/Tonikaku: How is the prepare to do a photoshoot? Do you take care of all the details (light, acessories...) by yourself?

Bellechan:  It depends of the picture. If it's something more elaborated and I plan it earlier, I do a list of the things I'll need and a sketch on paper of how I "see" the picture on my head, LOL. The expontaneous ones are improvised, I'm testing what's better and taking things to compose. I take care of the light of my pictures, but everytime I need some help, my fiancé Eglemilson (aka HunterX-v2), is always alongside to give some hint. Sometimes, there's a detail other person sees and another don't. We help each other.

 

Taís/Tonikaku: Quando você vai adquirir uma action figure, você já analisa qual seria a melhor modelo? Você prefere as figuras articuladas ou as estáticas para tirar as fotos?

Bellechan: Eu tento apenas adquirir personagens que eu realmente gosto. Mas abro exceções quando eu vejo um personagem que eu não faço a mínima ideia de quem seja e começo a imaginar várias fotos com ele! É onde o perigo mora! Eu gosto muito das estáticas pois elas são mais bem feitas, tem a qualidade dos detalhes muito superior à uma articulada. Elas são bem mais caras tb, hahaha. Adoro os Nendoroids pois eles são muito fofos e tem as peças intercambiáveis! Gosto muito de Figmas também, ambos são distribuídos pela GoodSmile. São as únicas linhas de articulados que realmente gosto.

Taís/Tonikaku: When you are buying an action figure, do you analyze which one would be the best model? Do you prefer the ball joint or the static ones to take pictures?

Bellechan: I try to buy characters that I really like. But I do open some exceptions when I see a character that I don't even know who is but I start to imagine a lot of pictures with! There's where danger awaits! I like the statics very much because they are very well made, they have much more quality on details than a ball joint one. But they are much more expensive too! hahaha

 I love Nendoroids because they are very cute and have the interchangeble pieces! I like Figma as well, both of them are distributed by GoodSmile. That's the only lines of ball joint figures I really like.

Taís/Tonikaku: Qual a importância de sites como o Deviantart e o Otaku Mode, por exemplo, para a divulgação do seu trabalho?

Bellechan: O Deviantart é minha galeria principal, onde consigo mais interação e feedback com os usuários. Ser Special Creator no TOM é muito importante para a divulgação do nosso trabalho pelo Facebook. Recentemente comecei a usar Instagram, pela rapidez e simplicidade. E conheci trabalhos de pessoas incríveis que estão lá por esse motivo.

Taís/Tonikaku: What's the importance of websites like Deviantart and Otaku Mode, for exemple, to divulge your work?

Bellechan: Deviantart is my main gallery, is where I get the feedback and interact to users. Being an Special Creator on TOM is very important to divulge our work on Facebook. Recently, I started using Instagram, because its very fast and simple. I got to know the work of amazing people there for this reason.

Taís/Tonikaku: Atualmente, você e o Eglemilson, estão participando de uma exposição na galeria Tcheca, Draka. Como é ter o seu trabalho exposto em uma galeria internacional? O que você acha que falta para as galerias, aqui no Brasil, abrirem espaço para esse tipo de arte?

Bellechan: Essa foi a segunda vez que participamos de uma exposição em Trutnov, na República Theca. Mas a primeira a ficar em exposição em uma galeria. É uma felicidade muito grande ter seu trabalho reconhecido e poder estar junto de artistas incríveis de figure-foto, mas também rola aquele frio na barriga de estar sendo julgada por centenas de pessoas, rs.

Eu tenho o sentimento de que muitos brasileiros acham que colecionismo de figuras é coisa para criança, pois acham que são brinquedos. Então eu não iria tão longe em imaginar uma exposição de fotos de figures numa galeria de arte. Mas eu gostaria muito de poder montar uma exposição de fotos em eventos de anime. Porém é um trabalho muito caro e sem patrocínio é inviável, infelizmente.

Taís/Tonikaku: Nowadays, you and Eglemilson, are participating on an exposition on a Czech gallery, Draka. How is to have your art exposed on an internation gallery? What do you think brazilian galleries are lacking so they could open space to this kind of art?

Bellechan: It was the second time we participate of a exposition in Trutnov, Czech Republic. But this is the first time it's being exposed on the gallery. I'm very happy to have recognition and to be with amazing artists of figure photography, but, also, I have the butterflies on the stomach to be judged by lots of people, lol.

I sense that brazilians think that figure collecting is a child thing, because they think its toys. So I wouldn't go so far and imagine a figure photo exposition on a brazilian art gallery. But I would appreciate to be able to expose on Anime Cons. However, its very expensive and, without a sponsorship, its a nonstarter, sadly.

Taís/Tonikaku: Quais são os seus animes e mangás preferidos?

Bellechan: Vou citar apenas alguns como YuYu Hakusho, Bakuman, Code Geass, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, CardCaptor Sakura, Fullmetal Alchemist, Kuroshitsuji e Fruits Basket. <3

Taís/Tonikaku: What are your favorites animes and mangas?

Bellechan: I'll only cite some of them as YuYu Hakusho, Bakuman, Code Geass, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, CardCaptor Sakura, Fullmetal Alchemist, Kuroshitsuji e Fruits Basket. <3

Taís/Tonikaku: Qual personagem de anime e mangá, que ainda não tem uma action figure, que você gostaria de fazer um ensaio?

Bellechan: A Kotobukiya tem realizado muitos sonhos meus. Personagens que eu queria muito de ter, como os já lançados Kurama/Youko (YYH). E agora foi anunciado a Sakura Kinomoto e o Shoran Li, então estou quase realizada. Posso sonhar então com um Yue? É, eu gosto muito de CardCaptor Sakura! Adoraria fotografar aquelas asas enormes!

Taís/Tonikaku: Which anime or manga character, that doesn't have an action figure yet, you would like to make a photoshoot?

Bellechan: Kotobukiya has been realizing many of my dreams, Characters I would like to have as the already released Kurama/Youko (YYH). Now, Sakura Kinomoto e Shoran Li have been annouced, so I'm almost fullfilled! Can I dream about Yue? Ok, I like CardCaptor Sakura very much! I would love to take pictures of that huge wings!

Taís/Tonikaku: Quais dicas você daria para quem adora action figures e quer começar a fazer toy photography?

Bellechan: Estude um pouco sobre fotografia e comece pelo básico. Treine. A câmera não importa. Eu comecei com uma compacta Panasonic DMC-FS42 que pegava emprestada da minha mãe! Se aprofunde, o conhecimento e a experiência vão fazer com que cresça necessidades e aí sim uma câmera melhor pode te ajudar.

Taís/Tonikaku: Which hints you would give to someone who loves action figures and wants to start doing toy photography?

Bellechan: You have to study about photography and start by basics. The camera doesn't matter. I started with a Panasonic DMC-FS42 that I borrowed from mom! Get deep: knowledge and experience will make the needs to grow, so that, buying a better camera can help.
